The Nagano Region (1998 host of winter Olympics) is very easy to get to from Australia. Very reasonably priced flights from East coast of Australia direct to Tokyo, Nagoya or Osaka will have you enjoying quality Japan powder snow with a minimum of fuss.

Our first camps of the season were plagued with unusual winds and weather which taught us a valuable lesson: We have to be mobile and we have to stay in the mountains. It’s a rare day in the Southern Alps when there is no wind at all. But knowing when and where it’s going to kick up is a bit of an art. We had to look hard for the best snowkiting conditions but as the images from those 2 weeks testify-we scored!
Since then we’ve had a lot more snow and now the days are growing longer and the weather more settled. We’re in for a great end of winter and spring. One of the many beautiful things about snowkiting is that winter isn’t over until we say it’s over. The commercial ski fields can do what they like- we’ll be out there as long as there’s snow. We’ll be snowkiting at least through October - so come join us!
Mounu Island Resort is the ultimate tropical island hideaway for kitesurfers and is especially well suited to couples. If you really want to “get away from it all”, then Mounu is the place. You’ll fly to Nuku alofa in the Kingdom of Tonga and then downsize to a smaller plane for the one hour flight to the northern island group of Vavau.
